Students4Life Constitution


Article I Name

  1. This organization will be called Students4Life.


Article II Mission Statement

  1. Students4Life promotes a culture of life within the educational community.


Article III Responsibilities of Members

  1. Members of Students4Life are expected to actively and responsibly promote a culture of life.

  2. Members of Students4Life will be required to pay dues of five dollars ($5.00) per semester before being considered a member for that semester.

  3. Failure to fulfill his/her responsibilities as a member of Students4Life (See Article III 1-2) may result in the removal of a member from Students4Life.


Article IV Officers

  1. President:

  1. Responsibilities: The president is responsible for organizing and coordinating activities and acting as an ambassador to school administration. The president is responsible for maintaining the organization throughout the term of office.

  2. Requirements: A candidate for president must be a university student and hold at least sophomore status at the time of election.

  3. Terms and Term Limits: The president’s term lasts from election until the second meeting of the fall semester. The office of president may be held for a maximum of two consecutive terms.

  4. Removal: Any member may present grievances against an officer in the form of a detailed written statement. The accused will be given reasonable opportunity to present a defense, after which a referendum will be held. A simple majority vote of all members will remove the accused from office. Once removed from office, the individual in question may not run for any office, but may still be a member of Students4Life.

  5. Vacancy: In the case of vacancy of the office of president, the vice president (on campus) will assume the duties of the president, in addition to the duties of vice president (on campus). A new president must be elected within two weeks.

  1. Vice President (on campus):

  1. Responsibilities: The vice president (on campus) is responsible for organizing and coordinating on-campus activities.

  2. Requirements: A candidate for vice president (on campus) must be a university student and hold at least sophomore status at the time of election.

  3. Terms and Term Limits: The vice president (on campus)’s term lasts from election until the second meeting of the fall semester. The office of vice president (on campus) may be held for a maximum of one term.

  4. Removal: See Article IV.1.D

  5. Vacancy: In case of vacancy of the office of vice president (on campus), the vice president (off campus) will temporarily assume the duties of the vice president (on campus), in addition to the duties of vice president (off campus). A new vice president (on campus) must be elected within two weeks. In the event that there are no nominations the president will appoint a new vice president (on campus).

  1. Vice President (off campus):

  1. Responsibilities: The vice president (off campus) is responsible for organizing and coordinating off-campus activities.

  2. Requirements: A candidate for vice president (off campus) must be a university student and hold at least sophomore standing at the time of election.

  3. Terms and Term Limits: The vice president (off campus)’s term lasts from election until the second meeting of the fall semester. The office of vice president (off campus) may be held for a maximum of one term.

  4. Removal: See Article IV.1.D

  5. Vacancy: In case of vacancy of the office of vice president (off campus), the vice president (on campus) will temporarily assume the duties of the vice president (off campus), in addition to the duties of vice president (on campus). A new vice president (off campus) must be elected within two weeks. In the event that there are no nominations the president will appoint a new vice president (off campus).

  1. Secretary/Treasurer

  1. Responsibilities: The secretary/treasurer is responsible for assisting in the keeping of records, including but not limited to: minutes for meetings, budget reports, event attendance, any procedural requirements required by the university, and assisting with online publication.

  2. Requirements: A candidate for secretary/treasurer must be a university student at the time of election.

  3. Terms and Term Limits: The secretary/treasurer’s term lasts from election until the second meeting of the fall semester. The office of secretary/treasurer may be held for a maximum of one term.

  4. Removal: See Article IV.1.D

  5. Vacancy: In the case of vacancy of the office of secretary/treasurer, the president will appoint a new Secretary/Treasurer by the next meeting.


Article V Elections

1. Nominations: Nominations will be held at the first meeting of the fall semester of each academic year. Any member may nominate another member for any position for which the member is qualified. Any member may nominate him-/her-self to run for a position for which he/she is qualified.

2. Date: Elections will be held at the second meeting of the fall semester of each academic year, at which meeting no other business may be conducted until the resolution of the election. Members will vote by secret ballot. The ballots will be collected and counted by the vice president (on campus) and the secretary/treasurer. A simple majority will resolve elections, except in the case where more than two candidates are running for the same office, in which case the election will be decided by a plurality of the vote. The election results will be announced during the meeting at which the elections take place. In the event of a tie for an office, the election for the contested office will continue until one candidate receives a simple majority, or a plurality of the votes in the case of more than two candidates.


Article VI Meetings

1. General Membership Meetings: General Membership Meetings will be held at least twice a month, with the location, time, and duration being determined by the president.

  1. Officer Meetings: Officer Meetings will be held at least once a week, with the location, time, and duration being determined by the president.


Article VII Amending the Constitution

1. Drafting an Amendment: Any member may submit a petition for amendment to any officer, at which point the officers will collectively draft an amendment for referendum.

2. Passing an Amendment: A two-thirds majority of a referendum in which all members may vote will pass an amendment.
